Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Laja Field grew up in creative dance, a base that continues to influence her intrigue of the vast possibilities in performance and creation. After graduating with a BFA in dance from the University of Utah in 2012 Laja relocated to Germany to join Johannes Wieland at Staatstheater Kassel and had the pleasure of working with many inspiring colleagues, teachers and guest choreographers such as Stella Zannou, Chris Haring in a piece performed again at ImPulsTanz 2013 and Hofesh Shechter in a piece re-staged by Sita Ostheimer. In 2015, Laja and partner Martin were invited to NYC to help found VIM VIGOR dance company. Bringing their own movement style to the company the two traveled to teach and create around the US and Canada. They also co-created and performed shows in NYC, Santa Barbara with DanceWORKS and toured to Prisma Festival in Panama.
MARTIN DUROV teacher and performer was born in small town Slovakia. A push from his grandmother started him into ballroom dance at age six and several years he later ventured into a Slovak Folklore group where he eventually became a soloist. In 2013, Martin graduated with a DiS. art. (certified artist) from the Conservatory J.L Bella Banska Bystricia, Slovakia and went on to join Johannes Wieland’s company in Staatstheater Kassel as a full time member for two years. In that time he had the experience of collaborating with many dancers, teachers and creating pieces by Helge Letonja, re-staging Hofesh Shechter’s DOG with rehearsal director Sita Ostheimer as well as several pieces by Johannes Wieland, totaling in over 100 shows. After three years of living in the USA and frequently visiting EU teaching, traveling, choreographing, performing Martin developed his own voice in dance using his Slovakian Roots and passion for other dance styles.
Laja and Martin founded LAJAMARTIN physical dance theatre in 2017 and have presented work at Joe’s Pub Festival, SouthSide Arts and Music Festival with DANCENOW, Westfest, BRINE, SALT Dance company’s inaugural festival LINK and also abroad at NewCastle College. They have been commissioned to create pieces for Brigham Young University, the J.L Bella Conservatory and will create a new work for the Anton Bruckner International School in Linz. LM have also had the pleasure of teaching at Universities and dance institutions in NYC, SLC, PA, Newcastle, Prague, Slovakia and Germany.
